*** Now talking in #TomorrowPeople
TheDreadnought
- brb - computer crash *** TheDreadnought has quit IRC (Quit:
Leaving )
Ladyslvr: Look at all the
people
tptigger Yeah, you'd
think there was a VIP coming or something. :)
Ladyslvr: Ladyslvr grins
Too bad everyone here is an OP
tptigger I count two Luke
Skywalkers amongst the Darth Vaders. :)
*** TheDreadnought has joined #TomorrowPeople
Ladyslvr: well, we all
knew you had problems ... :)
TheDreadnought Are people logging?
TheDreadnought is unsure if his logs works
TinyTim Yep
tptigger I think so.
TheDreadnought
Hopefully someone is then
Ladyslvr: Possibly, everyone.
Sammie_Winmill OK shall
we introduce ourselves...
TheDreadnought I
have logging switched on, but noticed my logs haven't updated since
October 10th
*** angeriana is now known as Sammie_Winmill
TheDreadnoughtIntroduce
ourselves - OK, I'm Shaun, near fanatical Australian TP fan
Ladyslvr: I'm Wendy. I'm
the owner of the lists and the web mistress for the TPFICT archives.
*** RedKF has joined #tomorrowpeople
Sammie_Winmill Shaun this is a completely
new experience for me. I've never spoken to anyone like this before.
What's on your mind?
TinyTim is Simon Fraser from Perth,
Scotland, a NS fan, but just getting interested in the OS too :)
tptigger OK, I'm Beth,
from Minnesota-- not as fanatical as Shaun, but fanatical enough to
be a bad graduate student this afternoon. :)
tiylaya Hello,
I'm Elizabeth. A fan from the UK
TinyTim Who else wants to introduce
themselves...?
TheDreadnought OK - well, thanks, first
of all for giving us some of your time
Sammie_Winmill Wendy
hello it's really good to know you're there and gunning for the tp,
and have been keeping this whole thing alive since when ever...Perhaps
when we get warmed up a bit we'll get into some further conversation.
TheDreadnought Well, I have a question
to start with?
RedKF Hi, Sammie... sorry
to be a bit late. I'm Kristy in Arkansas. Who never sends fan mail for
fear of being a gooie star struck idiot... then comes here and fits
the description perfectly. :) Highly in awe to meet you.
Sammie_Winmill Beth: Greeting to you.
I also feel like a student today because I've never done any e-mail
before. ... as I know nothing about computers.
Ladyslvr: Hi Sammie. We're
so glad you could make it. Conversation would be great, but I know some
people have questions first. Shaun? ...
Sammie_Winmill we can both be students
together tonight.
TinyTim Many thanks for
giving us your time, Sammie :)
Sammie_Winmill Hi Elizabeth. I'd love
to know where in the UK you are?
tptigger Well, thank you
for being so willing to learn as you go. :)(We're all happy to
help -- but I'm sure Jackie's a great resource.)
TheDreadnought Well... I'm just wondering
how much you followed the show after your departure? Did you watch it...
or maybe come back to it later? Or anything like that?
Sammie_Winmill Hello
again Shaun, I didn't watch the show and I didn't follow it, however
I am a great believer in the power of the human being as it was designed
to be
TheDreadnought Cool
Sammie_Winmill therefore
I followed my life as a Tomorrow person in that way
Sammie_Winmill Hello
Kristy, it's really good to feel the support of so many people around
the world, I have many close friends in America
Ladyslvr: Sammie, we've
had a few surveys in the past of the people on the mailing list. You're
by far not the only one who modeled his or her life on the TP.
Sammie_Winmill I
am sure we will get into some conversation a bit later on
Ladyslvr: That would be nice :)
Sammie_Winmill Great!
what do you think is the most important thing about being a Tomorrow
Person for real?
Sammie_Winmill That's a
good question. Perhaps I should turn it back to you?
Ladyslvr: Many people
on the list, myself included, have done their best to live peacefully,
to try to help out wherever they can.
TheDreadnought For me... taking an
interest in the world, and trying to work in its interests
Sammie_Winmill Wendy,
I wish you were here now it seems we could go on for hours about this
I think the first step is simply being a decent human being with a good
sense of humor, a care for ones self and I honestly believe that if
you want to know how the human is meant to be you need to study the
universe
tptigger Being able to
do the special effects? Just kidding. But seriously-- respecting
human beings-- both in their feelings and well being -- the thing I
seem to get stuck on is how to promote that.
Ladyslvr: Do you have a
spare matter transporter? I'd be happy to stop by.
Sammie_Winmill And
if you want to know what the universe is actually meant to do one needs
to study the human, I know we are going deep quickly, but that's how
I like it
Sammie_Winmill Yes,
Beth, a lady after my own heart Most people in the
world today see important things to be unimportant and unimportant things
to be important
RedKF Wendy, I've been asking
for years now and Jackie keeps saying John won't let me have one....
I should have know I was asking the wrong TP.
Sammie_Winmill The
way that I start in this is to promote what caused this extraordinary
design that I actually am and once I can get it going in myself then
I can extend it outside of myself, I hope this makes sense in some way
Sammie_Winmill Hi
Elizabeth, I live in Muswell Hill
Ladyslvr: Another thing
very much in common with fans of the TP is how many of us were social
or intellectual outcasts. Having the TP as a model helped us through
that.
Sammie_Winmill
Well, Wendy I am so delighted to know of anything that can help humans
through the convolutions and bends of this strange world we find ourselves
in
Ladyslvr: It's rare to
get role models who are smart, powerful, etc. but who still put the
legitimate needs of mankind first, and how win out in the end
Sammie_Winmill Kristy,
I'm sorry I can't give you a matter transporter physically i.e. jaunting
belt but then again if you think now of the Statue of Liberty and I
have the same picture in my mind you see we are there now, it's immediate!
Sammie_Winmill Yes
Wendy, I agree and it's this rarity that makes it so special
*** TheLightFantastic has joined #TomorrowPeople
TinyTim Hey LF :)
RedKF lol... Yeah, but it won't get
me to work on time. The trials of being the Sap Friend.
Sammie_Winmill However I do think that
in this world today there is always a price to be paid when putting
what is really important first but the rewards of that are so great
that it is always worth it, wouldn't you agree
Ladyslvr: Definitely
TheLightFantasticHey, Sammie, I'm Meg
Freeman from the USA
Sammie_Winmill yes
Kristy, work this is one of the unnatural prices that besets us natural
beings!
Sammie_Winmill Meg,
hello and greetings So what is your way?
RedKF I agree with a lot of
what you are saying, but I think you and I would take it in entirely
different directions.
Sammie_Winmill Yes,
Kristy, this is very possible - this is what I love about humans
TheLightFantastic Not much my way :)
Sammie_Winmill Meg,
I don't believe you, everyone has something that they are looking for
TheLightFantasticI
misunderstood the question, then. My way,
I think is to see as much as I can. To see and hear all the angles and
sounds that can be seen Towards better understanding
Sammie_Winmill Oh
sorry, Meg, I tend to go deep pretty quickly
TheLightFantastic
That's quite okay I live in a very religious part
of the USA. :)
TheLightFantastic
I'm quite used it
RedKF Am I correct that you
are thinking basically in a 'potential of humanity' vein outside of
any relationship to God, Sammie?
Sammie_Winmill Dear
Meg, I think that's a wonderful response and who in their right mind
could disagree with that
TheLightFantasticIf someone could,
I am interested to see it, for nothing more than the experience :)
Sammie_Winmill Kristy,
as I understand it God, an intelligence, call it what you will actually
designed the human and therefore everything that humans feel it feels
- and sadly so
*** jansulli
has joined #TomorrowPeople
Sammie_Winmill Meg,
yes it's always a challenge but then I would never be out to persuade
anybody it's something only that one feels it's not a brain thing
RedKF Well, we would certainly
have our points of agreement and disagreement... but as you say that
is what makes it interesting.
Sammie_Winmill
Well, the only way to balance is to have some of yourself, and some
of others
RedKF I've always heard that
if two people agree on everything, one of them is not necessary. :)
Ladyslvr: Sammie, I have
to step away from the computer for a few minutes, so let me get a question
in real fast here: As I mentioned, I run the TP Fiction archives.
I'm sure Jackie had explained fanfic to you, and if she hasn't, make
her :) Did you ever have any ideas for the show? Any scripts you would
have wanted done had they let you? And would you be willing
to share, if you have?
Sammie_Winmill Not at the time but
recently an idea has come into my head that I would like to somehow
depict a Tomorrow Person communicating with another human who was possessed
involuntarily by a perverse essence and causing them
to depart from it
Sammie_Winmill Hello,
Jansulli, we are getting into deep stuff here, pleased that you have
joined us, speak to you soon
jansulli
Hellooooo, I will wait my turn
Sammie_Winmill Beth your
question please
tptigger Wendy seems to
have nicely tangented into my question: Carol was followed on the series
by female characters who were less dependent (I could even make a case
that Liz was really in charge and let John *think* he was). Did you
wish that Carol was allowed to develop in a similar way?
Sammie_Winmill Yes,
I think in some ways that would have been good it's a wise lady that
allows the man to think that he did it
Sammie_Winmill Hello
again Meg, yes, however it depends what others you want of, that doesn't
sound good English I know but I do believe one has to select very carefully
the things one wants of others and the things one doesn't want
TheLightFantastic
Wise advice. :)
Sammie_Winmill Megan do you have a
question?
jansulli
Yes Did you follow the series after you left, and
if you did, which episode would you say was your favourite?
Sammie_Winmill I
didn't watch tp after I left.
jansulli
In that case, of the episodes you were in, which was your favourite?
Sammie_Winmill My
favourite show was Slaves of Jedikiah. There were two parts of that
which I really liked best One was when I was helping
Stephen in hospital. And the other part was when John
and myself were trying to return to the lab on our own power.
Sammie_Winmill Hello
again Shaun: What a soldier you've been up all night, I know the feeling,
stay on line!
Sammie_Winmill OK
message from me to everybody... What's happened? what's going on? Has
every one dried up?
TheLightFantastic
Oh, Shaun is having problems with his computer I believe
RedKF I'm here... just waiting
my turn. :)
Same here
TheDreadnought Some
slight problems yes - I'm having to nurse him along
TinyTim OK then, I'll ask
next, if that's okay Sammie :)
Sammie_Winmill yes
fire away
TinyTim My question is: Do you think
there should be another series of TomorrowPeople made, or do you think
it couldn't improve on the original?
Sammie_Winmill oh yes definitely. There
is an enormity that could be said, portrayed, acted, lived, danced,
sung, thought, about the people of tomorrow
TinyTim TinyTim nods Thanks
:)

bye tiylaya... Elizabeth. Good to talk to you. Have a good day. Have
a good life.
tiylaya Thank you. Bye everyone.

jansulli
May I jump in with a question?
Sammie_Winmill absolutely
jansulli
Have you heared any of the CD's? would you be interested in staring
in them?
Sammie_Winmill no
I haven't heard any of the CD's and yes I'm interested in staring in
anything!
tptigger (sorry to jump
in here) Has Big Finish approached you at all?
Sammie_Winmill no
jansulli
Big Finish is doing another 4 CD's this year so there is still hope!
jansulli
Do you keep in touch with anyone from the show?
Sammie_Winmill Jansuli: Very occasionally
with Peter, Nick and Phil.
RedKF My question: I have a
fanfic that won't leave my head that features Carol... at the rate real
life is moving it may never leave my head... but I'd love to know what
sort of mother you imagine Carol to be. (The novels left Carol married
with a child on another planet)
Sammie_Winmill Hello again Kristy,
well I think Carol would have been a very warm and understanding parent.
But I think there might have been a danger in her smothering the child
too much and she would have had to exercise an inner strength and a
discipline for her child to be free from her. Thank
you for the question.
RedKF I agree... I also imagine that
she would very easily be under appreciated by a busy husband... because
she wouldn't let him see she felt neglected
jansulli
Would a child have TP abilities?
jansulli
Have you got any stories about the show?
Sammie_Winmill
jansulli: I'm sure I have but it was all such a long time ago. I'm finding
it incredibly difficult to remember certain happenings that may have
ensued. I seem to remember once when we were at Teddington and we were
filming a scene on a rowing boat and I thought I was never ever going
to be warm again. It was so cold that I believed most of the rest of
the cast thought that I was a complete and utter wimp!
If anything else comes to mind I'll tell you about it.
jansulli
Many Thanks
comickid Have you watched
the show on tape while you starred in it?
Sammie_Winmill comickid
you haven't asked anything yet... you go next please
comickid I'm not sure if
this has already been asked yet, but what do you think about the show
being released on DVD soon?
Sammie_Winmill Greeting comickid I
find your name warming and interesting particularly as comedy is one
of my specialties where theatre is concerned. Speak to you soon.
comickid I'm glad you like it :)
Sammie_Winmill I
was delighted that the interest was such that it caused a release on
DVD. I hope many people get to watch it. Those from the past as well
those in the future.
TheDreadnought
Ah - a question from the maniac filmographer - besides the Tomorrow
People, what other TV shows did you appear in? And films, too, if any..
Sammie_Winmill goodness
Shaun. You don't want to know much do you?
TheDreadnoughtI keep
a database for other TP fans - and while I can track down a lot, sometimes
it's hard to find records hehe...
RedKF maybe he should have you go
check his list and tell him what is missing.
TheDreadnought I
have: The Avengers (The Eagle's Nest): Molly The Tomorrow
People (1973): Carol The Duchess of Duke Street: Ethel
Doctor In Charge: Nurse Sandra Crumpton
The Professionals (Old Dog With New Tricks) (1977): Young Lady
The Pied Piper (1972): Gretel I have no idea if there
is any more or not... I just know that sometimes there are gaps
Sammie_Winmill OK. Television. The
Duchess of Duke Street, Dr. in charge, Z-cars, The professionals. Films:
Futtocks End, Up Pompeii, and up the chastity belt! I'm letting all
my secrets out now!
TheDreadnought Wonderful!
tptigger Don't worry,
Sammie, it can't be any worse than some of Nick's stuff. :)
Sammie_Winmill Shaun let me ask you a question:
Shaun I would love to know. Can you name what it is that interests you
so much about me?
TheDreadnought New things to seek out...
of course, Nick Young asked me to burn one of the films he was in
RedKF Your a Tomorrow Person. Nuff
said. :)
Sammie_Winmill Beth
thanks for your understanding and encouragement.
tptigger You're welcome.
TheDreadnought You
were in the Tomorrow People - like I say, obsessed fan. About you -
well, really I know little about you except what I've seen here today.
But about Carol - Carol, I really liked. I loved her scene sitting there
trying to explain to Stephen what he was. And in The Medusa Strain,
her strength helping Peter stay out of despair, and her courage as she
was pushed into the airlock - willing to die rather than put others
at risk.
tptigger That airlock scene
really stuck with me-- I saw the airlock in Medusa Strain when I first
got my tapes-- and I was able to remember the entire scene despite not
having seen the episode in 10 years.
RedKF I love her railing out Kenny
for his stunt with the police man.
TheDreadnought Oh yes - and then when
he's obviously miserable at being told off, she can't keep it up (-8
RedKF Yep... I love it.
TheDreadnought I
suppose what I liked about Carol was her strength - very strong, but
also very caring.
Sammie_Winmill Shaun
thanks for that. Yes strength warmth and courage are beautiful qualities
and it was good to hear you name them.
Sammie_Winmill Beth:
I believe it's important to remember the things that stick strongly
in ones mind. If you look for the quality that it's attached to then
you can see why it is and what it is your spirit leaps for.
RedKF That's the scene that
I remembered over the years... I had a lot of the lines wrong, but the
feeling was just what I remembered.
Sammie_Winmill Shaun
Yes I'm afraid that's me all over.
TheDreadnought As
a writer of fanfic, Carol is one of my favourites characters to write
because of her compassion as well.
Sammie_Winmill Shaun: that's lovely.
I have to believe its because you too have compassion for certain things
that are important.
Sammie_Winmill Kristy: Yes, yes, yes.
Ladyslvr: I'm back.
RedKF I think I had basically
Americanised the lines in my head.
Sammie_Winmill I'm
sure there is someone that I've missed. That I haven't answered. If
you're still there please come back and ask me again.
RedKF (lol... she sounds just like
Carol. Would never want to leave anyone out.) The compassion in Carol
was all you. :)
Sammie_Winmill Kristy lol. How sweet.
You are obviously a great detector of character something that I would
like to improve in my own life.
TinyTim Okay guys... Has
anybody any further questions for Sammie.. :) It's just about
time to wrap things up
jansulli
I know this is probably an old question, but how long were you in the
TP show?
Sammie_Winmill 30th
April to the 30th July 1973
RedKF lol, thx.
jansulli
That was certainly a short time to make such a big impact!!!
RedKF She was one of the first... she
got to help set the standard for what a TP was.
Sammie_Winmill Jansulli that is an
amazing complement thank you.
Sammie_Winmill Back
to the question about a child being a tp? who asked
that one?
RedKF I think it
was jansulli... following up one of mine.
*** Guest67454 has joined
#TomorrowPeople
Sammie_Winmill Hello again Jansulli
that is a really good question.
Sammie_Winmill I believe that when
every child is born without doubt it has TP abilities but depending
on how strong it is to keep out the forces of this now polluted world
is questionable but there is always the possibility.
TheDreadnought
Guest has just made it!
Guest67454 David, 30, from Kingwood,
Texas U.S.A. High-Functioning Autistic male here.
Ladyslvr: Sammie, this
topic has come up on the lists before and we always seem to arrive at
the conclusion that a teleporting two-year old would *not* lend to the
survival of the species. What do you think?
Sammie_Winmill Wendy: I honestly believe
that natural powers such as these, particularly in a child can only
be used in safe circumstance. However, in adult hood once tampered with
by the brain yes I agree it could get very dangerous. I know you were
perhaps asking in jest but there is a truth in this I believe and I
take it seriously.
Ladyslvr: There was no jest.
jansulli
I wonder if that would make it easier or harder bring up the child,
being one yourself?
Sammie_Winmill David Hello to you better
late than never. Is there anything you want to say, A question? A statement?
anything... what is on your mind?
Guest67454 You are my personal favourite
actress from the original series I saw on cable many moons ago.
Sammie_Winmill
David: thank you for the lovely compliment, if I remember rightly did
you not write to me and did I not respond sending you a photograph with
my autograph?
Guest67454 Yes I did. Well, I tried
to. By way of Angeriana.
Sammie_Winmill who do you think angeriana
is?
Sammie_Winmill Wendy: thank you for
that. I did in no way mean to presume it's just that many people cannot
take the seriousness of these kinds of issues. I know that
what a child considers safe and an adult considers safe are two entirely
different things.
RedKF Sammie,
walking is a natural process but a small child will often chose to walk
into a place that isn't safe for him or her to be... jaunting there
would be double the trouble.
tptigger I'm about to go
all biologist on you guys. I'm very, very sorry: A TP "gene" (or, more
likely, group of genes) that didn't turn on until puberty would probably
be highly advantageous from an evolutionary standpoint because of these
issues. Probably regulated by some hormone (I can't think of any off
hand that are unregulated at puberty and aren't sex specific). OK, rant
off, I promise.
TheDreadnoughtDo it again and you'll
get a lecture on the quantum probabilities of the hole seen in 'Into
the Unknown' tigger Or some.
Sammie_Winmill Tigger...tigger tigger
you've obviously got a lot going on in that head of yours and it's all
too quick for me at the moment but the fact that you're inspired is
everything I hope to speak to you about this again.
RedKF And she wonders if we take this
stuff seriously. ;) See what happens when you turn our science staff
on?
Guest67454
I had told her to tell you. That's all I remember now.
This is a High Functioning Autistic male you're speaking to who tends
to pretty much live in the present.
Guest67454 My diagnosis would be looked
upon with patience by TP, I believe.
Neuro-Typical people, most of them wouldn't.
RedKF David, we could all likely use
to live in the present a bit more. I could anyway. We could learn a
lot from you
Sammie_Winmill
Dear David it's lovely to hear from you and thank you
so much for your honesty, your courage and your persistence. Please
keep going.
TheDreadnought is AS himself, David
- a lot of understanding out there
Guest67454 I'm struggling
to jump start a recording career. In Contemporary Gospel
music. Got two recordings out that were done with accompaniment
tracks. Two compact discs/cassettes I should say.
Worthy Is The Lamb (First) and Heaven's Gates (Second).
Guest67454 At work presently on my
first original effort where I'm taking part in the musical instrument
playing (especially on drums) next to singing on songs I composed with
a friend of mine. I play on the instrumental drum solo
song, Crusaders At War.
Guest67454 John Bonham-esque in delivery,
that track is.
Sammie_Winmill David
Fantastic don't ever stop. This is the food of the gods!
jansulli
I think Sammie should join the discussion list
Guest67454 Ditto.
RedKF Definitely.
Yes! She may get tired of some of our silly discussions... but
she'd love our more technical types.
Sammie_Winmill Thank you so much for
all your interest and support in the Tomorrow People. There was definitely
a message in the TP that is for real and to me reality is stranger than
science fiction. God bless, keep going, keep strong, keep safe and stay
bright.... Sammie
Ladyslvr:We do have an interesting
assortment of advanced degrees.
jansulli
It's all interesting

Bye to you all.
